Dennis McCarthy Still Earning it on the Football Field

Dennis McCarthy was just a Boston kid when Tom Brady won his first Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in 2002, fast forward 20 years and they’re both still slinging it, but with a unique bond.

Born in the Boston’s inner city to Irish Immigrant parents McCarthy came up through the Boston school system and earned a scholarship to Boston College.

The Dorchester bred McCarthy developed the nickname “Punisher” in college with his no nonsense, reckless, physical play and his habit of persisting  through injuries, we think Frank Castle would approve.  The 6’6″ quarterback’s college career was jeopardized early by a serious hip injury. Sports Medicine told him to give up the fight but McCarthy defiantly persisted, pursuing hs MBA and Masters in Economics at BC to maximize his eligibility, meanwhile earning his place in the Jesuit Honor Society.

The 199th pick in the NFL Draft, Tom Brady knows a thing or two about perseverance. Battling through a torn ACL, MCL, and multiple offseason surgeries over his 22 NFL seasons Brady has pioneered the phrase “Keep Going” that McCarthy embodies.

Recognizing McCarthy’s potential, Brady and Alex Guerrero of TB12 Sports took Dennis under their tutelage free of charge where McCarthy trained daily alongside NFL stars such as Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, and even got to practice with the New England Patriots; another group of guys who know a thing or two about perseverance. Guerrero and Brady have moved on to Tampa Bay but McCarthy remains in New England, what else would you expect from Boston’s own Punisher?
