Eastbound I-90 reopens near Ellensburg after 30-vehicle collision

Eastbound Interstate 90 has reopened east of Ellensburg after a 30-vehicle collision Wednesday morning forced the closure of the busy route for much of the day, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Drivers are warned to be cautious because of dense fog in the area.

Eighteen cars and 12 semitrucks were involved in the crash. Minor injuries were reported, according to WSDOT.

The freeway was shut at milepost 115, near the community of Kittitas.

A vehicle carrying boxes of apples appeared to be involved in the crash, leaving Honeycrisp apples scattered on the road.

Freezing fog and icy conditions in the area were the cause of the collisions, Cumaravel said.

If you’re considering traveling over the passes Wednesday, here are the weather restrictions:

  • I-90 through Snoqualmie Pass: No weather restrictions for eastbound or westbound travel. The road is bare and wet.
  • Highway 2 through Stevens Pass: Traction tires are advised. Compact snow and ice on the road.
  • Highway 12 through White Pass: No restrictions eastbound or westbound. Road is mostly bare and dry.
  • Highway 97 through Blewett Pass: Traction tires are advised, and the road is mostly bare and dry with frost and ice in places.
